Technology

LSI Translations uses the Across Language Server as its central technology platform. This software enables a transparent translation process that achieves maximum quality and efficiency through system-controlled data and process security.

The core function of a computer-assisted translation tool (CAT tool) is the translation memory (TM). Whilst a text is being translated, the TM saves the source and target sentence together as a text pair in a database. Whenever similar or identical source passages appear for translation, the text pair previously saved appears on the screen and can be entered with one click.

The translation memory guarantees maximum continuity and reusability of foreign-language documentation, and ensures that company terminology remains consistent and correct.

At the start of a new working relationship, the translation memory is ready to be filled with current data, such as terminology and the definitions given by the company. If there are no current data sets available, the first text pairs created from the translation are used to create the memory. From there, the translation memory grows in size with every translation.

The reusability of source and target pairs of text optimises both factors of time and money. Repeating translations, researching, entering the text and formatting similar or identical passages of text is reduced if not completely avoided. Whenever a new text is available for translation, the first step is its analysis. All sections found to match existing translation segments in the memory (‘matches’) are recognised and the word price is reduced by a certain percentage, depending on how similar the segments in question are.
